Annmarie, Emmie and myself went to see Justin in Ann Arbor. Woohoo! Note, this is not a full review. I'm just going to do a bullet-ed list (with long follow-ups, this is me) of the major moments of Justin awesomeness.
We got to the mall with 10 minutes to spare, and ran to the bathroom which was located in a long hallway that was right next to one of the entrances. As we're walking out, who comes just around the corner? Justin! He was surrounded by a couple of people and I said softly to Annmarie, "there's Justin." I continue looking at him as we walked and said again, "there's Justin" because there was no reaction from Annmarie. We passed by him, I looked back and just grinned. Annmarie commented to me that she had noticed the 'hot guy in the leather jacket' and had made the connection when she heard the second "there's Justin" from me that 'hot guy in the leather jacket' WAS Justin.
Interestingly, upon first seeing him (because TV adds so much bulk and largeness), he looked so small -- totally gorgeous, but still. Which is weird because he's not a small guy. By the end of the day, he looked larger than life. It's weird. It was like you have that TV impression which adds weight to a person and you see them and they are smaller. And then you get used to them in real world time as opposed to "tv world time" and they look normal, but when someone like Justin with such amazing charisma is around, once you've spent a few minutes with him/watching him, he's back to the larger than life impression. Weird.
I maneuvered right next to where he was when he was sitting there judging. I was about 3 feet away. I called his name at one point to get a picture and he saw me, smiled and winked. Eeeee!
You've all read about the ripped jeans. I got a couple of shots of the ripped-ness of the jeans. Very cool. When we get pics, those will go up too.
Justin has an oral fixation. Mmhmmm. He had his hand up around his mouth almost the whole time he was sitting there judging. He was playing with his bottom lip between his thumb and forefinger (and I don't want to even imagine what that mental picture is doing for you all!), he was nibbling on his thumb, on his thumbnail, he was sucking on a cough drop, drinking water (which I tried to get pictures of, LOL!). Major oral fixation does Mr. Guarini have.
Halfway through the judging, the DJ came over to talk to Justin and commented on him having a calculator and everything while he was doing this and Justin said (not in the mic, but I heard him because of how close I was), "I don't do math."
Sigh, a man after my own heart. Double sigh.
He was brought up to the stage for a brief bit and said that he had just come back from New York and had had some good meetings with some theatrical people.
Sigh, Justin performed. I was quite surprised that he sang OHTM, but he sounded amazing and I was like, 'okay.' It was so cute because half-way through the song, the track was too low. So in between a chorus and verse, Justin was like "track please." So polite. I love Justin. He was awesome, when he sang the "gotta rescue me" part, the crowd went wild. He sounded sooooooooo good.
Then he spoke for a bit to the crowd. Thanked everyone for coming out and supporting the singers who had competed, what it means to them and how much it takes to even try to do it. Then he thanked everyone for continuing to support all three seasons of American Idol.
Yes, he is THAT amazing! The show that has effectively shat all over him and he thanked the crowd for supporting the show! He is JUST AMAZING! Sigh! I love Justin! Such a gracious, wonderful person. Then he thanked those of us who had bought his CD, gone to see the movie, etc. And then said he that his first CD was contract, it was fun, but it was contract. He was recording his next album and it was going to be funky. {Pause} "And I'll get to move. I get to dance a lot." (He's so damn sexy!) He also talked about a TV show he wanted to pitch. Then, he acknowledged a little girl in the crowd with pigtails, saying how cute she was. He was so sweet. (The little girl was very cute, blonde with pigtails.)
Sigh, then he was done talking and the next track started, but it was too low so he asked them to please turn the track up and then with an adorable apologetic look on his face, added "and from the beginning." And then he did this little dorky move that I can't recall to describe, but it was FRICKIN' adorable. Anyhoo, music started again and it was slow and not very audible, so my brain immediately jumped to COMH because he's sang that live before.
Nope, it was Get Here. I know some are tired of it, but until Sorry came along, his GH was my FAVORITE song by him and it's still pretty close to Sorry in my opinion. So I was very happy with that and he sounded so amazingly beautiful. Sigh.
Small note about the meet-n-greet. There was like two long folding tables and there was a chair behind the table that Justin was clearly supposed to be sitting in. He wasn't. He was sitting ON the table, with his long legs swinging back and forth. TOO CUTE FOR WORDS!
Okay, Emmie stood in line (Annmarie and I didn't since we had already met him. Annmarie joined at the last minute just to take his picture, but that's it. I stood to the side.) Emmie introduced herself and pointed to me and Annmarie saying we created AS, Justin looked over and smiled/winked at me again. (Teeheehee!) She was telling him some weird explanation thingie and he didn't get it, so he looked directly at me and asked me. I figured that he should be able to figure it out on his own, so I wouldn't tell him either. He just smiled and shook his head. Ahh, he singled me out to speak to me. Ahhhh! LOL!
Finally, remember how I mentioned that we had run into Justin while leaving the bathroom upon our arrival? Well, as we're leaving, we went to the bathroom again, came out and just as we're leaving that long hallway, Justin and the people with him come around the corner again. I looked over and was like, I'm saying something this time. "Bye, Justin!" I said, and he turned and looked at me, gave a big smile and waved and said "Bye, see ya later!"
Yeah, Justin, on May 30th.
Overall, this was beyond an awesome experience. Justin was the same wonderful, sexy, generous, hot, sweet, gorgeous, incredible, handsome, gracious, talented, did I mention HOT! person that he has always been. And unlike the last two times I saw him, there was no air of frustration. He was just happy. Happy to be there, happy to be singing, happy to be interacting with the fans. Just happy and at peace. And you know what? I found that I just didn't miss the curls at all.
I got Justin and that was enough -- with or without the fro.
