It was fabulous! We didn't get my sister off to her flight until 4:30 & knew we were running late, & don't think I've ever driven so fast in my life. After Lucky called from her cell to tell us Justin was there at 5:00 or so, my foot never left full throttle. Scary. LOL And once we got in town, I shocked myself to hear the tires actually squealing a couple times. Oh Lord!
I loved that Mes & her family made us those press-pass looking things. They served to allow us to bypass that long line & get up front where we met a few other World members. I enjoyed that ... wonderful people! And those passes made us look official as we went down the line passing out the cards & stickers. I got stopped a couple of times with questions about Justin's schedule and his CD & one girl even asked if Justin would be willing to contribute an autograph or something to the American Cancer Society. Too funny. (I told her that charities were near & dear to Justin's heart & to ask his assistant ... I'm sure his poor assistant would eventually wonder who the heck was encouraging that. HAHAHA).
Itty & Mes had saved us a spot dead center of the stage. We chose to step back a couple feet to a small riser so we wouldn't get mobbed by the excited teens. That, it turned out, had to be the best place to watch! Reen & I laughed that Justin had no choice but to see us ... eye level only about 10 feet from him & no one blocking the view. And he did! No particular acknowledgment, but that he even made eye contact was marvelous!
You've read about his comments to Itty. I'm telling you, that moment was incredible. Itty is truly a lovely girl, so openly kind to everyone. And I'll never forget that image of her father when Justin said, "Brittany, I've been hearing about you all week." Camera poised in left hand, his right arm shot upwards like he'd just made a touchdown. I think he even let out a whoop. We all cheered! Precious.
Justin was beautiful! You've probably heard how much better he looks in person. Wow! His almond shaped eyes are more clearly defined ... From our vantage, he looked quite thin, much thinner than the pics show, but solid. His hair looked fabulous. A little longer than we've seen lately... clearly the jinglets were back. Loved the better fitting jeans, instead of the baggies. We watched him as he walked down the road to the stage & I was mesmerized with his easy, long stride. This man exudes confidence in such a non-assuming manner, regardless of how mundane the task. :)
His voice was magnificent! The sound system was great & he really sounded even better than his recordings, if that's possible. Engaging. We keep hearing that word & it perfectly describes him. Remember that jive talk he used during emc-ing the AI concert? Yep. He did that again & those kids loved it! Honestly, ... the response was overwhelming. When he finished his three songs, he took the time to touch the hands of all those kids swarming the front bottom of the stage. And his generosity toward the fans wasn't lost on the DJ's hosting the event. As they patiently waited for him to finish so they could start the dance, they remarked that Justin was a "star .. taking the time to show his fans how very much he appreciated them." They told him to take all the time he needed. Mes told me later those DJ's were "overwhelmed" with his kindness. Said at the meet & greet held after the event, they told her they hadn't spent a lot of time with him, but that they'd never seen anything like it. His genuine nature just blew them away. And even the next day, they were talking on air about that ... ALL day! Awwwwww!
I know your main question about all this would be ... how well received he was. Incredibly! Those people clearly were there to see Justin, & the response was deafening! Even the guys were rushing the stage with their girlfriends to touch Justin & get autographs. And I was surprised that UM was so well received. Those kids knew every word, sang along, & screamed when Justin held those high notes. This was all pretty enlightening! That's twice in the past week I've been blown away at how loved J is! And to be smack in the middle of this one is something I'll never forget! I can't tell you how heartening it is to witness this first hand. And I've got to believe that with every appearance, his CD sales will increase. And if they don't, which I'll never understand, I DO believe he's got a growing legion of fans eager to embrace whatever he does in the future... and there's no question ... he DOES have a future. :)
