Justin Guarini of Doylestown Township made it past another round of
eliminations on the Fox television show "American Idol."
Finalist Christina Christian was ejected from the contest Wednesday night after
the show's judges praised her performance Tuesday night. And with only five
contestants left, it's getting harder for them to outshine their peers.
The judges also had only positive comments for three other singers -- Kelly
Clarkson, Tamyra Gray and Justin Guarini.
Guarini, 23, rebounded from being one of three contestants with the least votes
last week with his rendition of "Route 66" by Nat King Cole.
"America, Justin is back," judge Randy Jackson said.
Judge Simon Cowell also had complimentary words.
"Most celebrities' behavior in real life is appalling," Cowell said.
"I'm sticking up for you because I think you've been treated unfairly. The
reason I want to make this point is because I do genuinely believe you're a nice
person and more important than that, a great performer."
"American Idol" airs at 9 p.m. Tuesdays and at 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
Viewers vote for their favorite singers by calling in after Tuesday night's
show.
One finalist will be eliminated each week until two contestants remain for the
two-hour season finale on Sept. 4. The winner will receive a major recording
contract.
