Fame Fatale In mid-June, Justin Guarini (remember him? Runner-up to Kelly Clarkson on the first American Idol?) paid a visit to our office to give the staff at ELLE and ELLEgirl an early listen to his new CD. He was rather beautiful-looking in person, and more serious and grown-up than he'd appeared on the show. He told us that his CD, his upcoming movie and his potential tour were all exciting, but not what he wanted to do most: produce! Imagine-- at 24, a major film release, a Clive Davis-backed first record, and national fame are, yeah, nice, but just a stepping-stone. Guarini admitted that being wildly famous before recording even his first track gave him a lot more control over his material than he would have had otherwise, and the liner notes are filled with love and gratitidue to all his fans. Fame begets power begets more fame begets more power. Okay, we all understand that.
