Jane Pratt Could Have Made Kelly Clarkson the "Un"-American Idol
MIN has learned that this spring, the Jane founder (1997)/editor-in-chief was invited to be a judge on what turned out to be the summer's hit Fox-TV series by AI co-executive producer Brian Gadinsky (the two are friends). Pratt turned it down because of her pregnancy (she is due to give birth in December), and because of the frequent commuting from Jane-based New York to AI-based Los Angeles. Pratt will tell Jane readers in November that had she judged, she would have chosen eventual runner-up Justin Guarini in the preliminary competitions. It was not until the September 4 final when Pratt felt that champ Kelly Clarkson "really showed her stuff" and viewers anointed her.
