The show's success has reached such dizzy heights that Clarkson was chosen to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at the September 11 memorial concert in Washington DC.

More remarkably, Clarkson and runner-up, Justin Guarini, a former door-to-door salesman, along with the show's British creator Simon Fuller, were invited to meet President Bush after the concert.
