The Daily News of Los
Angeles August 30, 2002 Friday,
POWER TRIP: Next week on "American Idol: The Search for a Superstar,"
Fox's hit star search show, the final winner will be chosen. But the nine losers
won't walk away empty-handed.
As well as getting probable recording contracts, potential agents and managers,
all the "Idol" finalists were given inspirational mementos from judge
and sympathetic supporter Paula Abdul.
Abdul bestowed sterling silver "Own the Power" bracelets ($48) on all
the finalists. They are designed by Los Angeles artist Carol Witlin and sold at
Tesoro, a hip home-design boutique located at 8625 Melrose Ave. in West
Hollywood, a fave of star shoppers such as Halle Berry. But seems there's an
Abdul family connection. Tesoro (which means treasure) is owned by Tara Riceberg,
who just happens to be Abdul's cousin. Abdul says she fell in love with the
bracelets months before she was offered the "Idol" judge gig and that
the gifts just seemed like the "perfect" token at the perfect time.
"I'm a big believer in tapping into your own power and not looking outside
to be validated," Abdul has said.
Both Justin Guarini and Nikki McKibbin have worn their
bracelets on stage. Ousted Idol contestants R.J. Helton and Christina
Christian can be seen wearing the bracelets on www.idolonfox.com. Will
the final two finalists sport theirs next week? All we can say is "Stay
tuned!"
