There is nothing like a celebrity to bring the House to a halt.
On Wednesday, one of the stars from the 2002 "American Idol" competition, Justin Guarini, stopped by the Capitol.
The singer and movie actor from Doylestown, Pa., was in Atlanta doing promotional work for Georgia-based Safe America Foundation.
"We are educating teen drivers and trying to bring driver's education back into the schools," Guarini said. "We want to get driver's education back in the forefront where it used to be."
The star has a Columbus connection.
"I was born in Columbus," he told the House. That brought some cheers from the Columbus delegation.
Guarini is the son of former WTVM anchor Kathy Pepino. His mother worked here in the late '70s when the ABC affiliate's newscasts were known as Action 9 news. His father, Clayton County Commission Chairman Eldrin Bell, escorted Guarini.
Before Guarini left the House chamber, he sang a song off his new album, posed for pictures and signed autographs.
The Columbus delegation, including Democratic Rep. Carolyn Hugley, posed for a photo with Guarini. Hugley said it was for her 10-year-old granddaughter, Kandyce.
In a breech of protocol, teenage pages -- especially the girls -- were breaking in line in front of lawmakers to have their photo taken with the star.
